Designing Your Ebook and Selecting Your Font

25 Mar

Your choice of font size and font type do matter in the design of your ebook or short report.

You have worked hard on your ebook.  You can’t wait to start selling it or offering it to your list.  But, first you want to make sure you have a solid design for your ebook.  Consider details such as your choice of fonts and the size of your type and how that impacts the design of your ebook.

Your ebook must be professional looking and well organized.  Presentation and clean navigation are  key elements in the success of your ebook.

A few things to keep in mind as you decide on the layout of your text.  Although you are using an electronic format for your document, remember that it may or may not be read using a computer monitor.  Some of your buyers may prefer to print out their newly purchased ebook and read it that way.  Others will read it via some electronic device.

The layout of your ebook should be done in such a way that it can be easily read on a monitor or printed on paper.

Key factors to keep in mind when considering font size, font type, and spacing:

1.  Font size

Font size should be between 12 and 14.  Make it larger if you are highlighting something, for example, an upsell.  Titles and heading should be 16 point.

2.  Font type

Use a san serif font for your copy.  A san serif font is cleaner and easier to read.  (San serif does not have the lines at the end of letters and numbers.)

Good font choices include Arial, Tahoma, and Verdana.

You may want to use a 12 point Arial  font for the body of your ebook or report, and use a 16 point Tahoma for titles and headings.

If you do choose a serif font, use Times New Roman.

3.  Spacing

Use at minimum a 1.5 spacing.  Depending on the type of ebook you have written, a double space may work best for you.

The Benefits Of Publishing Your Own eBook

11 Feb

It is not true that everything that has been said has already been written.

It is the perfect time to write an ebook. What the publishing world requires are new thinkers who can make the leap into the millennium and figure out how to solve old problems in a new way.

Ebooks are a powerful tool for original thinkers with fresh ideas to distribute information to the millions of people who are struggling to figure out how to complete many different tasks, or solve particular problems.

So, you have a brilliant idea, and the knowledge to back it up that will enable you to write a fantastic ebook. You may be sitting at your computer staring at a blank screen thinking, Why should I go through all the trouble of writing my ebook when it is so impossible to get anything published these days?

Well, let me assure you that publishing an ebook is entirely different than publishing a normal book. Let us look at the specifics of how the print and cyber publishing industry differ, and the many reasons why you should write your own ebook.

Pretend say you already have an Internet business with a quality website and a quality product. An ebook is one of the most powerful ways to promote your business while educating people with the knowledge you already possess as a business owner of a specific product or service.

Lets make an example here. Just say you have been bodybuilding for the last 10 years or more and now you are ready to share your knowledge and experience. An ebook is the perfect way to reach the largest audience of bodybuilding enthusiasts.

Ebooks will not only promote your business they will help you brand your name online and give you expert status in your field. You may even find that you have enough to say to warrant a series of ebooks. Niche businesses can often be perfect examples of this, where more than a single published ebook needs to be released to tell the full story.

Perhaps your goals are more finely tuned in terms of the ebook scene. You may want to build a whole business around writing and publishing ebooks.

Essentially, you want to start an e-business. You are thinking of setting up a website to promote and market your ebooks. Maybe you are even thinking of producing an ezine.

One of the most prevalent reasons people read ebooks is to find information about how to turn their
Internet businesses into a profit-making machine. And these people are looking to the writers of ebooks to provide them with new ideas and strategies because writers of ebooks are usually people who understand the new cyberspace world we now live in. Ebook writers are experts in Internet marketing campaigns and the strategies of promoting and distributing ebooks. The cyberspace community needs its ebooks to be successful so that more and more ebooks will be written.

You may want to create affiliate programs that will also market your ebook. Affiliates can be people or businesses worldwide that will all be working to sell your ebooks. Think about this? Do you see a formula for success here?

Figure out what your subject matter is, and then narrow it down. Your goal is to aim for specificity.
Research which is out there already, and try to find a void that your ebook might fill. What about an ebook about a wedding cake business? Or an ebook about caring for elderly pets? How about the fine points of collecting ancient pottery?

You do not have to have three masters degrees to write about your subject. People need advice that is easy to read and easily understood. Parents need advice for dealing with their teenagers. College students need to learn good study skills quickly. The possibilities are endless.

After you have writtten your ebook. Getting your ebook out is going to be your focus once you have finished writing it, just as it is with print books. People will hesitate to buy any book from an author they have never heard of.

The answer is simple, give it away! You will see profits in the form of promoting your own business and getting your name out. You will find affiliates who will ask you to place their links within your ebook, and these affiliates will in turn go out and make your name known. Almost every single famous ebook author has started out this way.

Another powerful tool to attract people to your ebook is to make it interactive. Involve people and they will take action, which is the ultimate goal as an online eBook publisher. Involving your customers and providing the means for them to purchase your eBook means that they will do just that.

When people interact with books, they become a part of the world of that book. The fact is just as true for books in print as it is for ebooks. That is why ebooks are so essential. They provide a forum for people to learn and make sense of their own thoughts, and also serve to promote your business at the same time.

How To Make Money Writing Online

29 Jan

There are many ways to make money writing online. Just one of them will be laid out here. It is one that you probably haven’t read about before.

Make Money Writing Online Ebooks

Okay, you have heard about ebooks and selling them. This isn’t quite the usual way to do that however. You do have to have a compelling ebook to sell to start this project. Something that “hooks” readers in the first chapter and leaves them wanting more. You can write this yourself or buy the rights to an ebook you like, but you need the full rights, allowing you to do anything you want with it.

For the sake of this example, we’ll suppose that you have an ebook on how to trade stocks profitably. It doesn’t have to be very long, but break it up into twenty or more chapters. Be sure that each chapter – especially the early ones – makes the reader want more. Drop hints as to what’s coming next or later in the book. Let the reader know they need the information in Chapter Twenty. Tease them.

Set up a website or a page on your existing site to sell the book. You may want to learn the techniques of writing powerful sales copy or hire help. But even with a relatively weak sale’s pitch, you’re going to have an edge on most seller’s as you’ll see. The site itself should be promoted in all the usual ways, from free or cheap advertising to article distribution.

Now, you can sell an ebook through a service that handles digital  products. It doesn’t cost much to set up an account at these places, and they’ll handle the actual sales when that order button is clicked on your website. This means no need to deal with credit cards yourself. It keeps things simple, and allows you to later spend your time working on your next project.

So far this is how most people sell ebooks. But now comes the twist. You take the book and break it into chapters or parts – twenty or more – and put each part on a web page. Using an autoresponder (these services start as low as $20 per month), you set up mailing to go out each week. These emails direct the recipient to the next part of the book on your website. Put a form on the sale’s page and once a visitor subscribes they automatically get a mailing each week for many months.

You see, the visitor can buy the book for $12 we’ll say, or get it free a chapter at a time over the months. Why do this? First, because people are impatient. If the book is good, they will see that and not want to wait. The first time I tried this my book sales doubled. Yes, I sold twice as many ebooks once I started giving them away.

It helps to remind them continually that they can buy the book if they no longer want to wait. Also let them know that they’ll get a bonus or two when they buy. You can write these yourself or buy an ebook or two with resale rights.

Okay, so you might sell more books, as I did. But there’s more to it than that. On all the pages where the parts of the book are hosted, you will have either pay-per-click ads or affiliate promotions to make even more money for you. The two times I have used this way to make money writing online, I made as much on the click revenue as with the book sales. In the given example of a stock trading book, you might advertise a course on trading options on relevant pages, or get commissions from an online broker that you recommend, and so on.
